The Boathouse

William Keel-Stocker Hatter

William Keel-Stocker Hatter

About this hat

The crown of the boathouse was formed using the upper portion of the same block as the Dallas ‘70. The side details and front and rear mule kick were formed by hand. It has a relatively low crown at 4 ½ “ an extra-wide 4 1/2 inch brim. This hat is made from a medium olive velour felt which has been stiffened several times to achieve the semi-rigid body typical of western felt hats. It has a woven rattan band with side concho-detail and two elongated brass beads. This hat was inspired by an old cowboy hat from the 1950s which has hung for many decades in the pump room of my grandfather’s outdoor swimming pool. The hat still hangs there, undisturbed to this today.
