About this hat

Hollywood is synonymous with great hats; not least Humphrey Bogart and a somewhat iconic hat among hat aficionados - the shape often referred to as the “Maltese Falcon” after the film of the same name. This is my own take on the Maltese Falcon. I have used a cone of vintage felt, known to date from the mid 20th century. It is no secret that old felts are of significantly higher quality than those manufactured today. As a result the finished hat has a vintage feel and certainly could pass for a hat of more than 80 years old - such is the smoothness of finish and pliability of this beautifully soft felt. This hat has a perfect 2 ½” raw-edge snap-brim. This hat features a very unique bow detail which I have not seen on any other hat and that I learned from an old Edwardian coat-belt. The Maltese Falcon style refers to the diamond-crease visible when you look down upon the hat; it is a variation of the centre-dent. This hat is fully lined in vintage satin and leather sweatband. It has a 6 inch open-crown and 2 1/2 inch raw edge snap-brim.
