About this hat

A classic, elegant silhouette. This is one of only a few hats that has the crown fully shaped on the hat block; there are many names for this type of blocking - I prefer “Setstyle” as coined by Falcon hats in the 1930s and 40s. Unlike an open crown hat which has the crease and dents formed by hand, a Setstyle hat features all of the detail for the crown shape in the hat block so that when the hat body is steamed and formed, it fully assumes the shape and profile of the hat block. The finished hat is a perfect facsimile of the hat block. This was a popular style in the late 1940s and 1950s most notably by English brands such as Attaboy and the aforementioned Falcon Hats. It allows for exaggerated features which otherwise would be impossible if the hat were to be shaped from an open crown. This hat features a convex side profile a pronounced reversed-taper, “tugboat” front and a perfectly symmetrical C-crown detail with a three-inch raw edge snap-brim. It also features side vents (small perforated brogue detail) which were often a feature of Setstyle hats. It features a unique brass sailboat amulet set on a blue and white woven band with single trimmed blue feather.
